Question:
If a physician removes skin tags by shaving can we report 11300?

Answer:
If you are removing skin tags you would report 11200 (Removal of skin tags, multiple fibrocutaneous tags, any area; up to and including 15 lesions) If more than15 skin tags are removed you would also report the add-on code 11201(each additional 10 lesions), not 11300. Per CPT Assistant, November 2002 “ Since codes 11200 and 11201 are diagnosis-specific for removal of skin tags, and removal includes scissoring or any sharp method, these codes should be reported for removal of skin tags that have been “shaved”.
